Spinal Decompression

Spinal decompression therapy is indeed a non-surgical technique designed to alleviate pressure on the spinal cord and nerves by gently stretching the spine. It’s particularly beneficial for individuals suffering from conditions such as spinal radiculopathy (nerve pain caused by compression), myelopathy (spinal cord dysfunction), sciatic nerve pain and claudication (pain caused by too little blood flow, typically during exercise).

During the procedure, patients are secured face down on a specialized, computerized mechanical table that can separate in the middle. This separation creates a gentle stretching motion, which induces negative pressure within the spinal discs. This negative pressure can help the discs retract, reducing the pressure on nerves and other spinal structures. Additionally, the decompression process allows for improved circulation of nutrients, oxygen, and fluids into the discs, promoting healing and relieving pain.

This therapy is often part of a comprehensive treatment plan that may also include physical therapy, exercises, and lifestyle modifications to enhance its effectiveness. It’s a popular option for those seeking non-surgical relief from chronic back, neck, or leg pain.
